MANZANILLO MEXICO: COMMUNITY SPAY NEUTER PROJECT
March 17-23 or 26, 2020 – 7 or 10 Day

7 or 10 Day Spay and Play
$895 or $1295

Join us in the safe and beautiful oceanside town of Manzanillo Mexico to make a tremendous difference in the lives of countless animals and the community. No special skills required! We will assist PATA in a large scale spay/neuter clinic and explore fun and adventure on land and sea in this lovely seaside town.

Veterinarians, vet students and vet techs also needed! This is an amazing and rewarding experience for veterinary professionals with tremendous opportunity for continuing education, professional development, community and contribution. Our vets report that this is one of the highlights of their careers.

Relax at the end of each day in your seaside posada resort under the thatched-roof palapa by the pool, enjoy a cool drink from the full-service bar, stroll on the pristine and unspoiled beach that stretches for miles or enjoy snorkeling, surf lessons, sea kayaking or other beachside activities. Each room is unique and offers a view of Manzanillo Bay, the harbor, and the Pacific Ocean. Rooms are simple, authentic and charming, featuring Dutch doors, hand-made furnishings, antique chests and colorful Mexican rugs and blankets. The grounds are highlighted by brick archways and a stone courtyard surrounded by lush, tropical foliage, multi-colored bougainvillea and swaying coconut palms.

Volunteers will work in hands-on animal care in a mass spay/neuter clinic, but no special skills are necessary. Choose how many days and how many hours you want to volunteer. Volunteers assist in the health and welfare of the spay/neuter patients and their owners before and after surgery. Some of the work may include:

Set up clinic equipment and supplies
Check in clinic patients
Clean and prepare surgical instruments
Monitor patient vital signs and recovery after surgery
Assemble and clean kennels
Trap ferals using humane traps
Educate owners on post-surgery care

You may also have the opportunity to adopt a dog from Manzanillo or to transport rescue dogs to homes in your country of residence.

Fly directly into Manzanillo or arrive via Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara and take a bus ride into Manzanillo. Both routes arrive through the northern side of the state of Colima.

We also welcome donations below. We’ve been able to donate veterinary supplies with past donations and continue to work toward providing additional veterinary supplies and other desperately needed items.

Background

PATA Manzanillo is a non-profit, all-volunteer group of local Mexicans and foreigners in Manzanillo, Mexico, dedicated to the welfare of all dogs, cats and area wildlife. Formed by a group of concerned citizens who decided to take animal welfare matters into their own hands, PATA seeks to help solve these problems by working with the community and municipality to aid the victims that need human intervention the most: the animals.

Incidents of injured or starving animals hit by cars, abused, or poisoned by angry residents and left to die in the street contribute to the impact of strays on the community: Each day an estimated 2,000+ liters of animal excrement is expelled onto Manzanillo streets and beaches; Abandoned animals fighting for food spread garbage and disease; Street animals, singly or in packs, present a dangerous bite hazard throughout the community; Sick animals and corpses present an enormous public health problem by spreading airborne infections and contagious diseases.

Please consider a donation of any amount to help fund a veterinary team traveling from the U.S. to work in this clinic.
